Meet our Clinicians

Alyson Dahl, PA-C

Board Certified Physician Assistant

Founder/Co-owner

Aly Dahl grew up in a small community in rural North Dakota prior to moving to Fargo. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of North Dakota in 2017. She is a first generation college graduate, who strives to always remember her roots and where she came from.

Working as a Family Medicine Physician Assistant since 2017, she has worked in both corporate and private practice in Fargo and has felt and experienced the constraints that the fee-for-service/insurance model has placed on patients and providers.

This is why she is beyond excited to bring a Direct Primary Care (DPC) model to North Dakota. It empowers her to practice medicine the way she has always envisioned, with the primary focus being on the patient.

Outside of of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, children and family. They love traveling, exploring new areas, especially National Parks, hiking in the mountains and simply watching the joy and memories made with their children. Their lives are often filled with running to multiple activities, sports and chaos, but she wouldn’t have it any other way!

“Quality of care is one of the things I’ll never compromise on. You’ll often hear my motto “quality over quantity”. I truly believe that everyone deserves access to quality care that is also affordable and not lead to medical debt. I have spent years advocating to friends and colleagues that our current healthcare system should not be considered the “norm” and that I was going to find a way to redefine and change how medicine was delivered.

As an advocate for my patients, I also strongly believe in the importance of setting boundaries to prioritize a work-life balance. Healthcare professionals dedicate countless hours to caring for others, often at the expense of their own well-being. It is crucial to recognize that in order to provide the best care for patients, we must also take the time to reset, refresh and work on being our best selves. Creating an environment that empowers both patient care while taking care of our employees and selves is what I look forward to most in operating our new clinical model.

If you asked me what I love most about Primary Care, I’d tell you top of the list is getting to know families across multiple generations. Being able to witness milestones and moments that shape their lives, is something I will always cherish. It is equally important for me to know what impacts patients’ outside our walls, as everything in their life will affect their wellness and success in reaching their goals. In the past several years, I have become passionate about Obesity Medicine, due to it having the potential to prevent numerous chronic health diseases. After the loss of my father several years ago this ignited my fire to dedicate time educating others on how to prevent these diseases before they begin, in hopes they can live a long & healthy life.

Kristine Martens, D.O.

Board Certified Family Physician

Founder/Co-owner

Dr. Martens grew up in a single-parent household in Billings, Montana. She attended college at Concordia College in Moorhead and went on to medical school at Nova Southeastern University - College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She then completed 3 years of Family Medicine specialty training at the Rapid City Regional Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Rapid City, South Dakota before returning to Fargo in 2013 where she has been practicing full scope Family Medicine ever since.

Maintaining a meaningful and trusting relationship with her patients has always been a priority for Dr. Martens. She has heard too many times over the years how patients feel rushed or not listened to by their doctor, and she has been determined to “fix” this problem. Was it the system? Or the clinician? In 2017 she helped develop the Family Medicine Residency here in Fargo and had the opportunity to instill in those new doctors not just the clinical skills of practicing medicine, but more importantly emphasized to them that the true essence of being a doctor lies in the ability to connect on a human level, to empathize, and to listen intently. By investing the time and effort to understand a patient's story, concerns, and aspirations, these new doctors were equipped to deliver not just medical care, but compassion and support. After the inaugural class of 2020 graduated she returned to full time patient care where she has always been meant to be.

When she isn’t working she is with her family. She loves watching her husband play guitar with Post Traumatic Funk Syndrome or 6th Street Revue. It doesn’t happen often, but when given the opportunity, she proves she is his biggest fan! More often now she is able to spend quality time with her 2 children, at least when they aren’t at soccer, swim or dance practices!

“My passion is simple, I want to help people. Unfortunately, a doctor’s reality is that we technically work for the insurance companies, not the patient, and for too many years, the time I had with my family suffered in order to care for all of my patients the way everyone deserves to be cared for. DPC allows me to prioritize my family without compromising the care I give to my patients. Honestly, I think I have always been a DPC doctor and didn’t know it, and I am so excited to be able to offer this new model of primary care to our community.”

Did you know?

Traditional Primary Care clinicians have OVER 2,000 patients in their panel size that they care for. This equates to an average of 12 minutes per appointment, which often takes weeks to get into and leaving you feel rushed, unheard, with unanswered questions or unmet healthcare needs.

In contrast, at Resurgent Health, we maintain a restricted patient panel, not exceeding more than 500 patients each. This allows us to spend more time with each one of you, restoring the personalization that is missing from the healthcare system today.
